The Jazz Continuum (Saturdays, 6-8pm): Gershwin & Kirk
Saturday, December 5th on The Jazz Continuum we’ll celebrate the 123rd birthday of Tin Pan Alley song man Ira Gershwin and a remembrance of multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk, who we lost on this day in 1977.  We’ll travel the jazz continuum in search of Gershwin tunes by Sun Ra, Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, Elmo Hope, Bud Powell, and others. Then, we’ll explore the explosive music of Kirk, renowned for his virtuoso improvisation, accompanied by comic banter, political ranting, and the ability to play several instruments simultaneously.
