New Planet Philadelphia today; Managing Waste. 4-5:00 PM


Continuing our series of interviews about waste.  During the pandemic, waste and trash issues have significantly worsened in some cities, including Philadelphia, although they are always important environmental issues.  We will be emphasizing some significant types of waste:  food and e-waste.   

Planet Philadelphia environmental radio show 4-5:00 PM today:

  • Haley Jordan and Helena Rudoffare both in the Philadelphia’s government Office of Sustainability.Hayley is the Program Coordinator of a program to minimize waste and implement policies within the City’s municipal agencies in support of its Zero Waste goals.  Helena is a Program Coordinator of a program working with residents and businesses to achieve Zero Waste and also coordinates several recent food waste initiatives.  They will be talking about waste in general, and several of Philadelphia’s newest waste management programs, with an emphasis on food waste.
  • Jordan Howell is a professor of sustainable business at Rowan University.  He has a joint appointment in the Dept. of Geography, Planning & Sustainability and the Dept. of Management and Entrepreneurship.  He is the Program Coordinator for the Environmental & Sustainability Studies offerings at Rowan.  Professor Howell has studied the performance of markets for recyclable materials and the history and future of waste management.  He will be discussing the management of e-waste.
