Cutting the Cord is an ongoing series that explores the different ways you can listen to Internet Radio besides sitting in front of your computer.

Cutting the Cord, Pt 6: Apple Delivers Internet Radio (Finally)

For a lot of people, if you can't do it with an Apple device it simply doesn't exist.  Apple didn't make the first digital music player but the iPod did it better than anyone before or after it.  Superior design and ease of use transformed people's concept of digital music.  The iPhone and iPod Touch are at it once again; this time for streaming audio.  Sure, other cell phones play streaming audio (see the first Cutting the Cord post) but faster networks and Apple cache make you want to do it.

Follow the steps below to stream G-town Radio (or any internet radio station) on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

With the free Apple application Fstream, it's very easy to enjoy streaming G-Town radio on your iPhone or iPod Touch.  Here's a step-by-step:

1. Install the free application Fstream through the iTunes store

3. From there, select Edit in the top left corner.

4. Select Add new webradio.

5. Type in a name for the stream.  We suggest something like "G-Town Radio", obviously.

6. In the URL field, type in the stream address.  There are two streams of G-Town radio and you may want to input both of them to be able to listen to the station no matter what your connection is:

High quality: http://www.gtownradio.com/gtown_hi.m3u
Low quality: http://www.gtownradio.com/gtown_lo.m3u

You can skip the Format and Bitrate fields, they are not required.

7. Select Save from the upper right corner

8. Now to play the stream, select Play from the bottom left corner bar and then select the stream that you just saved.

After a short buffering rate,  you should be rocking G-Town radio over your mobile phone.  Crazy world, huh?  Through Fstream you can even record programming through the Record button in the bottom bar.

Please note that while it is free to access the G-Town stream, standard internet data rates apply to your iPhone/iPod Touch.
