10/17/2011: G-town Radio's 2011 Fund Drive

Dear Listeners, Friends and Supporters,

This Fall, G-town Radio is very excited to kick off its fifth year of live streaming from our studio in the heart of Germantown. This grass-roots project started with nothing more than the desire of its volunteers to create a platform for citizens of Philadelphia to share their interests with one another and communicate in a way never before possible. The growth may have been slow at times but we have always moved forward, adding more quality programming, updating our studio and creating special programming focused on Northwest Philadelphia.

This past year has been especially productive. We were granted tax-exempt status from the IRS (501(c)3) making all donations to G-town Radio tax deductible. Our first board of directors was assembled to forge a long-term growth plan. Special programming such as the audio profile series “Sounds of Germantown” debuted and we dedicated more programming than ever to local issues. Every single candidate for City Council’s 8th district came in for interviews and we partnered with WHYY’s Newsworks to present and broadcast a debate between all seven democratic candidates. Our live programming also increased to twenty-two shows each week covering a broad array of topics from under exposed music to personal finance to social justice.

All our recent growth has made one thing apparent: a lot is happening in Germantown and the greater Northwest. G-town Radio wants to be your source for local news and culture you won’t find anywhere else. To do this we need to grow. We are actively working to hire our first ever paid staff member. This move will greatly upgrade our ability to forge stronger relationships in the community and improve the overall quality of our programming.

I am now making an appeal to you, our loyal listeners, ardent supporters and trusted allies. G-town Radio has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 by the end of the current year. This breaks down to just five hundred people donating ten dollars each. This modest amount will cover all our existing costs for the year and put us in an excellent position to come out of the gates strong in 2012.

Making a donation is easy. You will find links below to make a one time or continuing donation via PayPal. We accept checks too (see below). You can donate as much or as little as you want. It is all appreciated and will be put to very good use. Don’t forget it’s also tax deductible. Please take a few moments today and make G-town Radio’s first ever fundraising drive a success.

Sincerely,

Jim Bear

Founder and Station Manager
