Out of all the music out there these days, there is really not much that I care to hear. The radio is just awful with FM sounding like AM 20 years ago. Do you remember when DAS used to play entire albums when they came out? I never forget that anything by Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie, War, Mandrill, Rufus and so many others would be featured for an entire hour. No commercials!! Well, I guess satellite is sort of like that but there is still the big corporate mentality associated with it all. I'm glad to have the opportunity to play some things that I still like after all these years. (continued on next page)
This show will focus on fast house, dance, tribal, jungle, club and crazy beats from back in the day. I'm talking about Chicago and NYC style house that was produced on 12" vinyl back in the late 70's and early 80's. Music that was played exclusively in after-hours clubs like the Garage in NYC, the Warehouse in San Francisco and Tracks in DC. Then there was the Catacombs in Philly. My first time there was New Year's eve 1984. I stood in line to get in and it opened at 1:00 AM. Man, what a night it was. I will also pull from some of my favorite slower mood music favorites such as Boz Scaggs, Swing Out Sister and Basia. I'll forewarn you when I am going to do that so you can tune in or out. I'll keep it popping for you. Playlists will be posted as artists and song titles become available. Some of these are mixed tapes from many sources, but I will try to identify them. |
