G-town Radio is proud to present news breaks from the Media Mobilizing Project. You will hear new pieces each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays (noon & 5 PM). This week's On Blast segment is called The Meaning of May Day. On May 1st, Labor Justice Radio participated in Philadelphia's May Day celebration in Elmwood Park. Union workers, community members, and other members of Philly's labor movement came out to celebrate International Workers Day, and witness the groundbreaking of a new workers memorial being built in the park. Charles Jones (of SEIU 1199C) interviewed two of the organizers of the May Day celebration, Cathy Brady and Fabrizio Rodriguez, who speak about the significance of May Day and the current reality faced by Philly workers. Labor Justice Radio this week features a piece called We Have a Moral Obligation to House People. Picture the Homeless is a grassroots organizing group led by homeless people in New York City. From their website: "We are organizing for social justice around issues like housing, police violence, and the shelter-industrial complex. Our name is about challenging images, stigma, media (mis) representation - as well as putting forward an alternative vision of community."
LJR sat down with organizer Rob Robinson to speak with him about Picture the Homeless' Housing Not Warehousing campaign and their struggles with banking giant JP Morgan Chase. This piece was recorded and produced by Dan Jones |
