On June 8th, 2017, David Jones was shot in the back and killed by a police officer in North Philadelphia's Hunting Park section. Video footage captures the scene and shows Jones running away, unarmed. Since then, the family has organized rallies, marches and worked to spread the word about the loss of their loved one and demanded justice. Tune in to Stepping Into Tomorrow this evening at 8:00PM, as host Gabriel Bryant speaks with Diop Olugbala of the Black is Back Coalition and Black Community Control of the Police. Diop will be discussing their rally and march against police brutality, happening this Saturday, June 24 at 2PM in North Philadelphia. Although planned beforehand, with recent news of the killing of Charleena Lyles, the not-guilty verdict in the Philando Castile case, and in Philadelphia, the skull fracturing assault on 14 year old Naji Tribble and killing of David Jones, this demonstration seems all the more timely!

Gabriel will also speak with Ramona Africa, who will be discussing this Saturday's historic marker ceremony, being placed on Osage Ave. and Grays Ferry in west Philadelphia.  A campaign organized by youth from The Jubilee School inspired by the story of the MOVE bombing, this marker - confirmed by the PA Historical and Museum Commission - will commemorate this tragedy which occurred back on May 13, 1985. Poets Sonia Sanchez, Ursula Rucker and musicians Kindred the Family Soul will be present, along with other activists and entrepreneurs to highlight this event!

Gabriel will also speak with Ogbonna Hagins, also known as The Philly Green Man, who will talk about his transformative community work that combines ecology, environmental activism and entrepreneurship. Recognizing the need for safe and sustainable communities, Ogbonna has developed a groundbreaking strategy to address the ills of refuse, "garbage" and other unused goods for the betterment of neighborhoods!

Park to the African American Museum. Come out and be a part of this cultural and historic extravaganza! Additionally, Gabriel will speak with organizers from the "Body Party Holistic Bazaar," happening Sunday, June 18th, as part of their annual JuneteenPH events! April 22 in Clark Park in west Philadelphia. Coordinating under the banner "Black Health Matters - Black Community Control of Our Health," this event will feature special presentations from health practitioners, screenings (including blood pressure, eyesight, dental health and more), free exercise workshops, yoga, live music and over 100 vendors!
