The Jazz Continuum (Saturdays, 6-8pm):“Great Black Music - Ancient to the Future.” Print E-mail

This week on the Jazz Continuum we are inspired by the Art Ensemble of Chicago’s slogan, “Great Black Music -  Ancient to the Future.” We’ll travel the continuum for tunes that encompass African and Eastern cultures, the legacy of brass bands, Blues and Spirituals, Trance and more. Featured artists include Alice Coltrane, Art Blakey and the Afro-Drum Ensemble, Yusef Lateef, Cheick Tidane Seck, Exploding Star Orchestra, Maleem Mahmoud Ghania with Pharaoh Sanders and more. John Campbell is a junior in a Roman Catholic high school in Philadelphia and the organizer/contact for the Philadelphia chapter of Fridays for the Future, an international youth group that works to prevent environment degradation and limit climate change.

Travel the Jazz Continuum with host David Brown. Old, new, in, out...wherever the music takes us. This week, iconic live recordings. Travel to the storied Village Vanguard & Birdland to hear Art Blakey, John Coltrane and Christian McBride; Tokyo Japan with Herbie Hancock, The Lounge Lizards, and others; and even a high school gym for Thelonious Monk. No tickets necessary, good seats available on G-Town Radio.
